Spirituality

There are those who sit on their bottoms doing nothing about their beliefs, but who comment plenty on the faiths of those around them. Then there are those who question and seek proof. Which camp do you fall into?

It doesn't matter how you do it; What matters is that you question things and then go and find out for yourself whether or not they exist. And I'm not just talking about dipping your toes into the water! Embrace Buddhism, study the Qabalah, learn Astrology or the Tarot - do what feels right for you; but here's the important bit - be ready to walk away from anything that doesn't sit well with you. Intuition is your greatest tool and your greatest guide. A word about protection - many people ask about this. How you go about it? Why do you need it? The first thing to recognise is that before you go begin any spiritual work you need to know how to keep yourself safe. This is why I always recommend getting good training if you are embarking upon any study into the spiritual realms. There are many ways to protect yourself, from pure white light to prayer and incantations - the point is you must believe in it one hundred percent. Find what sits well with you, a phrase that could describe your entire spiritual training! We live in a modern world, a world where information is available to us at the touch of a button but is it all what it should be?

When we see things written down they assume a gravitas that may be unfounded, a trust that may not have been earned and when it comes to spiritual matters there’s lots of information but not all of it is perhaps as authentic as it seems to be. Trusting your intuition is key and if something doesn’t sit well with you it may be time to learn to trust that feeling, look around and compare information that ought to connect to your soul! Infact take more care over that than you do when you go looking for car insurance! Settling on one belief system isn’t necessary and you can of course develop your own sense of what you believe and what you would prefer to steer away from. But isn’t having a sense of structure the very thing that will help you to understand the process better? Of course mine was the Qabalah, but the Tao, Buddhism, Spiritualism, Wicca – infact anything you feel drawn to - is fine and you will find that having a well thought out, easily identifiable and more importantly verifiable discipline will help you grow, and measure that growth of course.

But knowledge is only one part of the equation. What happens if you simply learn things by wrote and don’t bother actually feeling it, putting it into action and walking the path rather than hitching a ride on someone else’s back? Cut and paste spirituality is easily done, answers from websites and passages from books quoted, or often misquoted, aren’t really lessons learnt and new ideas formed. If you truly want to make changes

in your life through your spiritual study and awareness of the laws of the universe there really is only one way and that’s to walk your talk. Sometimes that won’t be comfortable and decisions you make will mean changes in relationships, location, career or wherever you feel you want to make them.

Support for those decisions sometimes doesn’t come from earthly sources and frankly neither does the prompts to take action.

Unless you have a solid grounding in practical application of your spiritual beliefs all you’re really doing is lighting candles and ringing bells.

Don’t cut and paste - do something original with your life and make sure you learn your craft by walking as well as talking!
